Healing Through Environment
Ryder's Room
Transforming spaces of trauma into sanctuaries of safety, joy, and healing. Ryder's Room is the Ryder Harrington Foundation's flagship program for trauma recovery for children across Texas.
The Challenge
When children experience traumatic events and law enforcement comes in to rescue them the aftermath can often be as traumatic as the events themself. For many of these kids, the very room where the trauma occurred becomes a constant trigger for PTSD and anxiety.
Every wall, every piece of furniture, every corner holds a memory they're trying to escape. The one place that should feel the safest, their own bedroom, becomes a source of pain and fear.
The Solution
A Brand New Beginning
Ryder's Room is a program that steps in after the crisis. We work with families and children to completely renovate and transform the child's room into a brand new, fun, and safe environment.
Everything is designed to replace the painful memories with a fresh start. A space that feels like theirs, where they can begin to heal.
How It Works
Step 01
Referral
Families are referred to us through partner organizations, law enforcement agencies, and social workers who identify children in need.
Step 02
Transformation
Our team comes in and completely renovates the space — new paint, furniture, decorations, and everything needed to create a fresh start.
Step 03
Reveal
The child walks into a room that is entirely new — a space free of painful memories, full of color, comfort, and hope.
